Creasey and O’Loughlin Steal the Show’s LOLs
Joel Creasey, to borrow a phrase once used to describe Julia Gillard鈥檚 voice, has a wit that could strip enamel from a refrigerator. The young comic delivered in trademark double-barrelled shotgun style at Midsumma鈥檚 Laugh Out Loud Comedy Night on Wednesday.
Geraldine Hickey entertained with her impressions of horny kangaroos, while Paul McCarthy regaled the audience with intimate tales of his growing up and coming out.
Anne Edmonds delivered one of the night鈥檚 funniest performances. At times it was a wee slow.
The show was stolen by Fiona O鈥橪oughlin, who tramped the stage like it was her bitch. A master storyteller, O鈥橪oughlin was mesmerising from the word go; taking the audience through stories of her personal life with the right mix of warmth and dry, sardonic wit.
Withering punchlines were delivered with pinpoint timing. Wednesday night was the debut of new material about her marriage and the pitfalls of platonic relationships/friendships with the opposite sex.
If her upcoming Melbourne Comedy Festival show features the same ballsy / quality of material, 2014 will be a gangbuster year for O鈥橪oughlin.
