Melbourne LGBTI community mourns loss of drag icon Kerrie Le Gore
MELBOURNE’S LGBTI community is mourning the loss of “Mother of Drag” Kerrie Le Gore (Kevin Minogue), who聽passed away over the weekend on Sunday.
Le Gore was a popular drag queen in the city’s gay scene, with her show聽Le Gore鈥檚 Backyard聽being an institution when it was on every Sunday at the former Exchange Hotel,
[showads聽ad=MREC]In much of her later life, Le Gore lived with illness and endured several replacement surgeries, and had problems with walking聽after complications from a knee replacement.
After growing up and being educated by nuns in Melbourne鈥檚 north, at 23 Le Gore left public service work to move into promotions.
It was in 1977 that Le Gore first discovered drag at a backyard party that had a strict 鈥渃hange of sex鈥� theme and in 1983 she started her first drag show at the Dukes Hotel in Abbotsford.
At the time of print, there has has聽been no announcement of a memorial service.
