Ainsley Melham Is Charming As A Prince In Rodgers and Hammerstein鈥檚 Cinderella
When 17c起草社区 managed to snag some of Ainsley Melham鈥檚聽valuable time, he was in rehearsals for an upcoming play in Adelaide,聽while officially on a break between Brisbane and Sydney seasons of聽playing Prince Topher in Rodgers and Hammerstein鈥檚 Cinderella!
鈥淲e鈥檙e about to jump into our Sydney season of Cinderella,聽which is thrilling, we were meant to start our tour with Sydney at the聽end of 2021 but covid was still closing theatres, so we moved our聽Sydney season to the end of the tour, so we鈥檝e been to Melbourne,聽Brisbane and now we鈥檙e very excited to get to Sydney finally and聽share Cinderella with Sydney audiences!鈥�
When asked if creatives ever actually take a break when they聽are supposedly on 鈥榟olidays鈥� he laughs, saying, 鈥淚 mean the allure聽and the attraction with Cinderella as a longer tour and being able聽to fit another job in there, it allows me to escape creatively for a聽moment and be able to come back and approach Cinderella again聽for Sydney with a renewed energy, which I think is always important聽on a long-running contract.鈥�
Melham had a taste of Broadway in 2019 when he was playing聽Aladdin, with another stint booked for 2020 before covid told us it聽had other plans and when asked if he was impatient to get back聽to the 鈥楪reat White Way鈥� it was obvious he appreciates performing聽in Australia.
Melham: I Really Do Love It Here,聽Being In This Country
鈥淚 really do love it here, being in this country, I think it鈥檚 so wonderful聽and we鈥檙e so lucky to live in Australia. I think we learnt that over the聽last couple of years, even touring around with Cinderella and being in聽Adelaide and doing 鈥楾he Normal Heart鈥�, it鈥檚 such a beautiful country聽to live and work in as an arts worker.
I definitely have plans to return [to Broadway] though I wouldn鈥檛 say聽it鈥檚 impatience to get back. I鈥檓 excited to go back and reconnect with聽people but in saying that it doesn鈥檛 mean that I鈥檓 keen to get out of聽the Australian industry because I really do love performing here and I think聽we have such wonderful talent in this country as well.鈥�
Melham鈥檚 take on Aladdin was immortalised in 2019 when he聽played the role for Disney鈥檚 recording of the production for their聽streaming platform, coming soon!
