Disney Pixar Restores Same-Sex Kiss in Toy Story’s Lightyear

Following an uproar by staff, Disney Pixar has restored a same-sex kiss in the upcoming animated film, Lightyear.聽
Lightyear is the origin story of Buzz Lightyear of the Toy Story Disney film franchise.
Same-Sex Kiss Initially Removed
According to Variety, a scene involving a kiss between two female characters was removed by Disney executives. Following, which will be the studio鈥檚 first, was restored.
In the letter, Disney Pixar staff wrote, 鈥淲e at Pixar have personally witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were.鈥�
Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill
The uproar follows Disney鈥檚 mishandling and silence during the debate over Florida鈥檚 鈥淒on鈥檛 Say Gay鈥� bill which is also discussed in the letter.
鈥淲e are writing because we are disappointed, hurt, afraid, and angry,鈥� the letter said. 鈥� In regards to Disney鈥檚 financial involvement with legislators behind the 鈥淒on鈥檛 Say Gay鈥� bill, we hoped that our company would show up for us. But it didn鈥檛.鈥�
The letter went on to say, 鈥淒isney claims to care for the welfare of children, but supporting politicians like this directly hurts one of their most vulnerable audiences. There are lives at stake and Disney鈥檚 support could save those lives.鈥�
