Housing group set to merge

A long-running AIDS housing support organisation, the AIDS Housing Action Group (AHAG), looks set to merge with a larger health body this year.

Southern 17c起草社区 understands AHAG is in the initial stages of discussions with a larger Government-funded health body to better assist AHAG with sourcing accommodation for clients.

AHAG secretary Brett Hayhoe told Southern 17c起草社区 the committee of management was unable to comment at this stage on proceedings as no details have been confirmed.

Hayhoe said the board took any changes to AHAG鈥檚 set-up 鈥渧ery seriously鈥 and said clients were of 鈥渦tmost importance鈥 when decisions were being made.

Hayhoe said client privacy was also 鈥渆xtremely important鈥 and would be taken into consideration in changes to the organisation.

AHAG is a confidential, community-run housing service for people living with HIV and has been operating since 1987.

The organisation was established by hospital social workers, health professionals and people from the Victorian AIDS Council who saw a need for people living with HIV to find affordable housing.

The statewide service offers a referral and advice service, crisis accommodation and some financial assistance.
