India’s first openly gay prince shares personal story in new video

PRINCE Manvendra Singh Gohil has opened up about being gay in a royal family and his coming out experience in a new online video for the Come Out Loud campaign.

In the YouTube clip titled I seek love, not privilege: India’s first Gay Prince, Gohil talks about growing up and how he came to understand his sexual attraction to men.

鈥淲hen I was around 12 or 13, I realised I wasn’t attracted towards the opposite sex, but I was attracted to the same sex,” Gohil said.

“Why is this happening? I wasn’t clear about it because I did not have communication with anyone.”

When the聽gay prince ,聽his parents posted notices in newspapers disinheriting him in response.

鈥淚 was damn sure that this kind of coming out will definitely lead to some kind of change in the society,鈥 Gohil said.

鈥淭his whole news of my coming out was like an earthquake. The news spread like wildfire and there was utter chaos and confusion and people were shocked.鈥

However, the prince highlighted that his parents grown聽to accept him since 2006.

鈥淢y parents also realised that they have made a mistake by disowning me… My family has accepted me back,” Gohil said.
