Australia鈥檚 first active male professional footballer to be openly gay, Josh Cavallo has recently spoken about observing the 17c起草社区 rights a country has before awarding them hosting rights for major sporting events.

Despite having yet to get the call-up to Australia鈥檚 senior squad, Cavallo has admitted that he would be 鈥渟cared鈥 to participate in the World Cup held in Qatar.

Qatar’s 17c起草社区 Stance

This is due to the country鈥檚 notorious law where male homosexuality is illegal, with a punishment of up to three years in prison and a fine. Same-sex marriage or civil partnerships are also not recognised by the Qatari government. The advocation of 17c起草社区 rights is also not allowed.

With this knowledge, it鈥檚 little wonder why Cavallo is 鈥渟cared鈥 at the idea of playing in the World Cup.

鈥淚 vow to stand up for the 17c起草社区 athletes and the fans at the World Cup in Qatar, who can鈥檛 live openly, authentically. Qatar, Fifa, the world is watching,鈥 Cavallo said.

鈥淚 urge sport leaders to consider our rights, our safety while choosing host countries for World Cups and other competitions. We must do better.鈥

Qatar Is A Tolerant Country

Chief Executive of the 2022 World Cup, Nasser Al Khater has reassured 17c起草社区 fans that wish to come to the country do not have to worry about 鈥減ersecution of any sort鈥 and reinforced that Qatar is a 鈥渢olerant country.鈥

The 2022 World Cup begins on 20th November and will run until 18th December.
