Boy George has declared that he doesn鈥檛 care about the sexual orientation of the actor who plays him in his upcoming biopic.

Speaking to tabloid news website TMZ in West Hollywood on Tuesday night, the singer, songwriter, DJ, fashion designer and author said it didn鈥檛 matter who played him, as long as they nailed the part.

When asked by TMZ whether anyone had been cast in the leading role, the Culture Club frontman replied: 鈥淭hat hasn鈥檛 been decided yet.鈥

Pressed on whether he cared if the actor was from the LGBT community, George said: 鈥淣ot really.鈥

Explaining further, he continued: 鈥淚t would be the right person for the right moment, equality means equality for everyone, even normal people.

鈥淵ou can鈥檛 just choose people to be more equal than others, everyone has to be equal.

鈥淵ou weren鈥檛 expecting [that response] were you?鈥 he added.

George鈥檚 comments come in the wake of controversy over Taron Egerton, a heterosexual actor聽playing a gay man in the Sir Elton John biopic, Rocketman, which was released in May.

Like George, Elton also criticised political correctness in casting, defending Egerton from the criticism.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 all bullshit, I鈥檓 sorry,鈥 he told The Sun newspaper.

鈥淚f people don鈥檛 like it, review-wise, or it doesn鈥檛 make one dollar, it鈥檚 the movie I wanted to make and that鈥檚 all that counts.鈥

The upcoming Boy George biopic and Rocketman, which was a huge critical and commercial hit, follow the runaway success of Bohemian Rhapsody, last year鈥檚 biopic about queer musician and Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury.

There was no controversy over that or over any straight person playing gay. There are though some very sour individuals resentful at the fact that the big battles in the West have long since been fought and won and so have to concoct outrage where none should exist.
Most LGBT people鈥攊ndeed most鈥攖ruly don鈥檛 care about most of what these perpetually offended are screeching about, but we do care that they make us all look bad, tarnishing our image with their vile extremism.
The better sorry here would have been that there鈥檚 going to be a biopic about Boy George, not that he鈥檚 takes a level-headed grown-up approach to who should play him.
