The Simpson’s Smithers to come out as gay
AFTER almost three decades of speculation,听The Simpsons character听Waylon Smithers will come out gay in the 27th season of the show.
Speaking with American TV website tvline.com, The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean said:听鈥淚n Springfield now, most people know he鈥檚 gay, but obviously Burns doesn鈥檛.
鈥淲e deal with that in two episodes鈥� We actually do a lot with Smithers this year, he gets fed up with Burns not appreciating him and considers his options.鈥�
This is not the first openly-gay character on the long-running听TV series. Marge鈥檚 sister Patty came out as a lesbian in 2004, and Duffman was outed as gay in 2008.
