Kyle Hogan celebrates joining the Sportsman

THE man that created Brisbane鈥檚 Big Gay Day, now the biggest-grossing single event on the Queensland LGBTI calendar, has returned from Sydney to take up the post as general manager of the Sportsman Hotel at Spring Hill.

鈥淚 am delighted to be joining the team,鈥 Kyle Hogan told 17c起草社区.

鈥淚 really didn鈥檛 realise how much I missed working and being part of the gay community,鈥 he added, reflecting on his time running a portfolio of hotels after he left Brisbane in 2011.

Catching up with the 17c起草社区 recently聽at 聽his old stomping ground of the Hotel Wickham as his position had not yet been announced to the Sportman鈥檚 staff, he joked:聽鈥淪porties is such a great venue and it also fits perfectly with where I am at my time of life. You know I am not a twink anymore and I have lots of hair.”

Hogan would not be drawn on why an experienced manager would be running a stand-alone pub, although sources close to his appointment suggested it was part of a refinancing and repositioning of the Sportsman in 2014 and that they wanted 鈥渉is pedigree鈥.

鈥淣eil (McLucas) is one of the most respected gay elders in Queensland and has huge plans for 2014. I am delighted to be working for him and look forward to big things. I can鈥檛 wait,” Hogan said.
