Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne has ignited heated debate across social media, with plenty left horrified (or very, very confused) by his exaggeratedly theatrical performance of iconic character The Emcee from Cabaret at the .

Some compared his performance style to a 鈥済oblin鈥� or Pennywise the Clown.

The whole spectacle was roasted online.

The performance left many divided, which led some to question viewers鈥� knowledge of Cabaret.

Cabaret is one of my favorite musicals. The emcee is supposed to be kinda creepy and you are suppose to feel unsure in regards to if he can be trusted.
